to the fascinating
world of ARTESIA stones//
100% Made in Italy since 1978
Artesia stones are the result of constant research worldwide of the best and most exclusive quarries. Carefully selected at the origin, the raw material is processed in Italy to guarantee maximum quality.
Most of the processing is still carried out by hand according to the most antique craftsmanship tradition.
Artesia is natural stone, pure fascination expressed through the uniqueness of every single rock. Choosing Artesia means to love the purity of a biocompatible material and getting in touch with its primordial materiality.
Ecological material processed in respect for the environment
Artesia stones are completely natural:
– they disperse the emissions of high and low frequency waves and static electricity daily produced by household appliances. In fact for decades slate was used to insulate electric panels.
– the shape of the stones inhibits nesting of insects and spreading of bacteria.
– their easy cleaning prevents the formation of harmful dust.
– they are packaged in recyclable material.
– the material is extracted in quarries under strict surveillance on the minimum environmental impact.
– processing does not entail any chemical procedure and no fumes are released into the environment.
– the dust produced is almost completely abated and the water used in the process is purified and reused.
– the scrap of the different production stages is not released into the environment but most of it is reused.
Easy to Lay
Artesia stones are easy to lay like normal tiles. Only a few small precautions must be taken for the best results. There is further information in the laying section.
All Artesia zones have been tested according to European standards in force regarding natural stones. The results of the tests are extremely satisfactory and are shown in the technical data sheets of each stone. International Slate Company makes the official documentation available if required by the design.
It does ot chip
Being a natural product, slate is not treated with glazes and the colour inside is the same as on the surface. Therefore, following a blow, there is no risk of discovering part of the product with a different colour than the surface and the natural appearance remains unchanged even after years of wear.
Most Artesia materials perfectly adapt to being laid outdoors. They do not freeze due to the low absorption rate. They resist to wear and treading.
Slate owes its charm to the very fact of being natural stone. Some imperfection, roughness, colour difference or vein is not a defect but instead a value and it makes each slab a unique piece, caved from the earth as nature has created it.
The passing of time is an ally for the stone and it contributes to make every work unique and special.
Simple to Clean
Daily maintenance of a stone floor is no different than one with normal tiles and does not require special practices. Cleaning and treatments are proportionate to the zone of application and to their more or less frequent use or being walked upon.
Further information can be found in the maintenance section.
Resistance to stains
Low porosity also contributes in making the stone resistant to stains from organic substances which can interact with it during normal use. We recommend cleaning it with neutral products.
Slate has a water absorption value of practically zero and has low porosity. This quality is linked to its sedimentary origin and the tectonic compression which it underwent during its formation process. An in-depth analysis of the water absorption values of the individual stones is published in the technical section of this catalogue.
Resistance to freezing
The consequence of low porosity is a considerable resistance to freezing which makes it possible to easily use many stones outdoors or in zones which are particularly cold or subject to high thermal excursions between day and night. Just look at the technical data sheets to know whether the stones are suitable for outdoors.
Slate is a compact and little absorbent material giving it considerable resistance to chemical and atmospheric agents, even particularly polluted areas and does not change its appearance when laid outdoors (except for Black slate) and is suitable for use in bathrooms and swimming pools.
